Swap The Signs-Restroom Route

Expiration: Nov 1st 2025

The Swap the Signs Restroom Route was created to highlight and celebrate local businesses in Tofino and the Westcoast that have taken steps toward inclusivity by updating their washroom signage or has signed the petition to support Swapping the Signs.

Everyone deserves access to these spaces - however, trans and non-binary people are often left on the sidelines because many spaces don’t have a gender-inclusive washroom.

By joining this trail, you’ll be supporting businesses that are helping change that.

This pass is more than just a fun way to explore, it’s about:

  • Discovering ally businesses across the Westcoast

  • Supporting safer, more welcoming spaces for 2S/LGBTQQIA+ individuals

  • Taking part in a community effort that values dignity, safety, and equal access for all

Your check-ins and participation will help show that visible allyship matters.

Ahous Adventures

Ahous Adventures is an eco and cultural adventure tour company owned and operated by the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) Nation, offering an exciting variety of excursions within ʕaḥuusʔatḥ haḥuułii (Ahousaht territorial lands, waters and culture), including Hot Springs Cove tours, whale watching and bear watching.

Ahous Adventures invites visitors to explore ʕaḥuusʔatḥ territories through the lens of the people who have lived on and stewarded these lands and waters since time immemorial. We believe that by openly sharing ʕaḥuusʔatḥ knowledge, culture and history through storytelling, that locals and visitors can deeply connect with the true spirit of this remarkable ecosystem.

Nišmâqin, colloquially known today as the Maquinna Provincial Marine Park (location of Hot Springs Cove), is the new chosen name for this ecological and cultural gem. Nišmâqin means – the land that is ours.

Ahous Adventures is core to ʕaḥuusʔatḥ’s economic development plans in the tourism sector – a sector the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ have been historically marginalized from – with the intent to build a sustainable conservation economy, further ʕaḥuusʔatḥ self-determination, create training, employment and mentorship opportunities for ʕaḥuusʔatḥ community members, and partnerships with non-ʕaḥuusʔatḥ businesses and crown governments.

In addition to adventure tours, Ahous Adventures offers a Coffee & Tea Bar, serving hot & cold beverages as well as a gift shop that sells books, clothing, jewelry, artwork & souvenirs – with a focus on handmade, indigenous giftware.

Clayoquot Action

The mission

Clayoquot Action is a Tofino-based conservation organization committed to protecting the biocultural diversity of Clayoquot Sound. Our goals are accomplished through public education, citizen research and monitoring, and advocacy. Clayoquot Action stands for democratic rights, indigenous rights and the rights of Mother Earth.

The vision

The Clayoquot Action vision is simple: to keep Clayoquot Sound clean and green for future generations, to preserve the diversity and integrity of the ecosystems, and to maintain and develop community and cultural richness.

The challenges facing the planet are interconnected—from the climate crisis and the extinction wave, to global market failure. Although these challenges are global by nature, the best place to bring about change is locally, at the community level.

It’s time to create a new story about the role that humans play on Earth, a story that shifts societal values from getting bigger to getting better, and promotes community and cooperation above competitive individualism. Humans must exercise our qualities of high intelligence, forward planning and moral judgment to create a cooperative and sustainable future for all.
